Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Announces Five-Year, $45M Initiative to Study Racial/Ethnic Disparities
Under a new initiative known as Excellence Centers to Eliminate Ethnic/Racial Disparities, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality will allocate $45 million over five years to nine new research projects to help identify strategies to eliminate these disparities. The projects that will receive funds are:
- Racial and Ethnic Variation in Medical Interactions, by researchers at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston;
- Overcoming Racial Health Disparities, by researchers at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill;
- Improving the Delivery of Effective Care to Minorities, by researchers at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City;
- Understanding and Reducing Native Elder Health Disparities, by researchers at the University of Colorado in Denver;
- Access and Quality of Care for Vulnerable Black Populations, by researchers at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta;
- Health Disparities in Minority Adult Americans, by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh;
- UCLA/DREW/RAND Program to Address Disparities in Health, by researchers at the University of California-Los Angeles;
- Understanding and Eliminating Health Disparities in Blacks, by researchers at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston; and
- Promoting Effective Communication and Decision Making for Diverse Populations, by researchers at the University of California-San Francisco.
