International Council of AIDS Service Organizations Releases Assessment of How Nations, NGOs Apply Human Rights Guidelines
The International Council of AIDS Service Organizations this month released an assessment of how nations and nongovernmental organizations are applying the United Nations' International Guidelines on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights to their dealings with people with HIV/AIDS. The guidelines were created in 1996 at the Second International Consultation on AIDS and Human Rights, sponsored by UNAIDS and the U.N. High Commission on Human Rights, and distributed to member nations. To assess how those guidelines were being applied by member nations, researchers from ICASO, with funding from the Japanese Foundation for AIDS Prevention, surveyed 21 NGOs from 15 countries. The full report is available online ("HIV/AIDS and Human Rights," May 2002).
