Cuba Backs Brazil in AIDS Drug Dispute With U.S. Trade Representative
In a Foreign Ministry statement Sunday, Cuba "urged" the rest of the world to "back Brazil" in its dispute with the United States over the generic manufacture of patented AIDS medications, the Washington Times reports. The statement said that Brazil's argument that it has the right to produce the cheaper generic drugs "would contribute to 'broader and sounder solutions in the fight against AIDS,'" especially in the developing world. The case is currently before a World Trade Organization panel (Washington Times, 3/6).
