Connecticut Governor Declares April 26 ‘Dr. Robert Gallo Day’
In a tribute to the co-discoverer of HIV, Connecticut Gov. John Rowland (R) declared April 26 to be "Dr. Robert Gallo Day" in Connecticut, the Hartford Courant reports. Gallo, who is from Waterbury, Conn., now serves as the director of the Institute of Human Virology in Baltimore. He is currently working with HIV co-discoverer Dr. Luc Montagnier in an international effort to develop an AIDS vaccine. During a gathering on Friday, Gallo said that several books documenting his years at the National Institutes of Health are in the works. These books will be "very different" from "Science Fictions," a new book that charges that Gallo "engaged in scientific fraud" by "essentially swiping" Montagnier's research on HIV, the Courant reports (Condon, Hartford Courant, 4/27).
