New York Times Reports on South African Medicines Control Council’s Review of Nevirapine Approval
The New York Times today reports on the South African Medicines Control Council's reconsideration of its decision to approve the antiretroviral drug nevirapine for use in preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission (Swarns, New York Times, 8/7). The MCC last week said it was conducting a review of the approval of nevirapine due to "serious concerns" about the drug's safety and efficacy (Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report, 8/6).
