CNN’s ‘Your Health’ Reports on HIV-Positive Muppet on South African ‘Sesame Street’
CNN's "Your Health" on Saturday looked at the HIV-positive Muppet character introduced last month on the South African version of the children's television series "Sesame Street" (Hunter-Gault, "Your Health," CNN, 10/5). The 5-year-old, HIV-positive, orphaned Muppet, named Kami -- which means "acceptance" in the Tswana language -- was created to help destigmatize HIV and "create a culture of acceptance" in South Africa, where one in nine adults are estimated to be HIV-positive (Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report, 9/18).
