- "The Long-Term Care Dilemma: What States Are Doing Right and Wrong," Council for Affordable Health Insurance/American Legislative Exchange Council: The report by Steve Moses of the Center for Long Term Care Financing examines the U.S. long-term care financing system and profiles 10 states, half of which largely rely on Medicaid for long-term care and half of which use private insurance and other pay options (CAHI release, 9/8).
- "Monitoring Medicare+Choice: What Have We Learned? Findings and Operational Lessons for Medicare Advantage," Mathematica Policy Research: In advance of the launch of Medicare Advantage, the report by MPR's Marsha Gold, Lori Achman and colleagues summarizes key findings from a project that monitored the Medicare+Choice program from 1997 to 2003. According to the report, for the Medicare Advantage program to be successful, private plans must be able to view Medicare as a "reliable business partner," beneficiaries must be educated on coverage options and all participants must have realistic expectations (Mathematica Policy Research release, 9/9).
