Multimedia Partnership Launches ‘Rx for Survival’ Initiative To Educate Americans on Global Health Issues
Several media outlets -- including WGBH, Vulcan Productions, TIME Magazine, National Public Radio, PBS.org and the Penguin Group -- on Wednesday announced that they have created a multimedia partnership called "Rx for Survival: A Global Health Initiative." The project -- which is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Merck Company Foundation -- aims to educate Americans about global health problems and enroll their help in providing relief. As part of the effort, the groups will launch a Web site in June and premiere a six-hour documentary television series in the fall. The documentary will examine public health initiatives and interventions that have been successful in increasing life expectancy in industrialized nations but have yet to reach developing countries (WGBH release, 4/5).
