Former U.S. Rep. Green To Lead Malaria No More Policy Center
Former U.S. Rep. Mark Green (R-Wis.) recently accepted the position of managing director of the not-for-profit organization Malaria No More's newly launched Policy Center in Washington, D.C., the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Green previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Tanzania, where he worked with a malaria program. Green said he is "a believer in the cause" of reducing malaria, adding that his new position will allow him "to continue with the work we did every day and loved every day in Tanzania." Green said, "One of the most exciting things" about malaria work is that "we know what works," adding that success will depend on "whether we have the will and resources" to implement effective programs (Gilbert, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 2/2).
Peter Chernin, chair of Malaria No More, said Green's experience in malaria control efforts "gives the Policy Center a unique perspective on how policymakers can help wipe out the scourge of malaria in Africa." Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) added that Green's "commitment to the elimination of malaria is well-established and the strong leadership and dedication he has shown on this issue are exactly what is needed if we are to be successful in preventing malaria from taking any more lives" (Guardian/IPP Media, 2/4).
