HIV/AIDS Initiatives Should Focus on Prevention, Involve More Young People, Editorial Says

Although HIV/AIDS treatment programs increasingly are becoming available to people in poorer nations, prevention is the "answer" to curbing the spread of the pandemic, a Seattle Post-Intelligencer editorial says. Approximately $8 billion more is needed annually to adequately fight the disease worldwide; however, there also is the "question of whether the money is targeted well enough at prevention," the editorial says. Young people also should become more involved in prevention efforts because "when fighting a killer disease that targets the young, it's time to involve youth in improving things," the editorial concludes (Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 6/6).
