MMV, U.A.E. Institute To Collaborate on Malaria Research Center
The Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates has signed an agreement with the Medicines for Malaria Venture to participate in a proposed biomedical cluster known as Abu Dhabi Bio City, the Khaleej Times reports. Under the agreement, HCT is seeking to be part of a new malaria research center -- known as the Center for Malaria Research Development, Distribution and Education -- that will be located within the Bio City. The center is scheduled to be completed by 2009 and aims to accelerate the development and distribution of new malaria treatments in Africa, Asia and the Middle East (Khaleej Times, 10/20). The center's other primary goals include professional medical education and positive policy change in all regions affected by malaria. MMV plans to work with industry, research and public health partners to build and manage the center's malarial drug pipeline (MMV release, 10/18).
