New York Pharmacists Call for Reversal of Reimbursement Rate Cut
New York state pharmacists say that a 2.25% cut to Medicaid and EPIC payment rates that is scheduled to take effect July 1 could result in pharmacy closures or force pharmacists to reject program beneficiaries, particularly in rural areas, the Albany Times Union reports. EPIC is a state-sponsored prescription drug program for the elderly. The cut was approved to address state budget problems and will result in an estimated $50 million loss to state pharmacies. The pharmacists are lobbying to repeal the cut or increase the state's prescription drug dispensing fee (Crowley, Albany Times Union, 6/11).
