Obama To Expand Benefits To Same-Sex Partners Of Federal Workers
President Obama is expected to extend health care and other benefits to the same-sex partners of federal employees today, The Los Angeles Times reports. "His action is a significant advance for gay rights and comes days after the Obama administration sparked outrage by filing a legal brief defending the law forbidding federal recognition of same-sex marriage" (Barabak and Garrison, 6/17).
The State Department recently made similar changes to its policy and details of the plan are expected at the Oval Office event tonight, The Washington Times reports.
