Timeline For CHIP Reauthorization Now Likely To Stretch Into December
As lawmakers continue to discuss proposed changes in the measure to renew federal funds for the Children's Health Insurance Program, it appears a likely candidate for inclusion in a massive end-of-year omnibus spending bill.

Despite Changes, House Dems Still Oppose CHIP Bill
House Republicans have altered legislation to extend funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program, but the changes won’t sway Democrats, who are accusing the GOP of using a must-pass bill to gut ObamaCare. An updated version of the legislation eliminates a provision opposed by Democrats that would have charged higher premiums to Medicare beneficiaries earning more than $500,000 a year. But in its place, the bill would cut more money from ObamaCare's public health fund. (Weixel, 10/31)

CHIP Funding Looking More Like December
Congress is increasingly unlikely to renew until December the federal funds for the Children’s Health Insurance Program that ran out in September. Partisan bickering over how to fund CHIP, as well as fear of renewing the Obamacare repeal fight, has left lawmakers with few options other than tacking CHIP renewal onto a massive year-end government spending bill or, possibly, an emergency hurricane aid bill closer to Thanksgiving, according to Republicans and Democrats on the Hill.
