U.N. Web Site Solicits, Tracks Progress of HIV/AIDS Donations
Encouraging donors to believe that "small contributions can make a difference to global problems," the United Nations Development Program-sponsored NetAid.org web site offers detailed, searchable "data sheets" for every project displaying how much money has been raised and spent for the cause. The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reports that the site "solicits" donations in specific amounts, ranging from $19 to $59, to fund supplies, transportation, and training in Third World countries where the rate of HIV is growing. The NetAid site is supported "free of charge" by Cisco Systems and Akamai Technologies (McKenna, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, 11/28).
