Report Finds Health Industry Tops Spending List for Lobbying
The health care industry "retained its crown as the top spender on lobbying" in the first half of 2000, according to a new report from Political Money Line. CongressDaily/A.M. reports that the health care industry spent $106 million on federal lobbying out of a total of $755 million in this period. During the last six months of 1999, the industry spent $115 million out of a total of $770 million. For individual organizations, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce led the pack in spending in the first half of 2000 at $9.6 million, followed by the American Medical Association at $7.8 million (Mitchell, CongressDaily/A.M., 4/25).
