Texas A&M to Construct Rural Health Center in Rio Grande Valley
Texas A&M University will spend $4.5 million to build a new facility for the South Texas Center for Rural Public Health in McAllen, Texas, and $1 million to enhance the school's medical program operations at the Rio Grande Valley facility, the McAllen Monitor reports. Construction on the new building could begin within the next six months. The facility will allow STCRPH to enhance its outreach and educational services for rural residents and "boost research" into health issues affecting rural and border communities. It will also serve as a "permanent home" for the center's master of public health programs (Taylor, McAllen Monitor, 9/19).
