Wisconsin Lawmaker Calls for Hearings on Medicare+Choice Plan Co-Pay Increases
Responding to complaints from senior citizens about the PrimeCare Gold health plan, state Rep. Timothy Carpenter (R) has called for hearings on the issue before the Wisconsin Assembly's Aging and Long Term Care Committee, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. PrimeCare Gold, a Medicare+Choice plan operated by Minnesota-based UnitedHealthcare that serves 16,000 members, has received criticism from senior advocacy groups for its "dramatic co-payment increases" scheduled for next year. In response to the increases, the Wisconsin Bureau of Aging and Long Term Care has begun "warning" senior citizens against enrolling in PrimeCare Gold, saying the increases could "cost seniors more than they would pay under traditional Medicare" (Manning, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 11/7).
