YouthNet Announces New Publication Series; JAMA Publishes Study on HIV Prevalence, Unrecognized Infection Among MSM

YouthNet Briefs: Family Health International's YouthNet on Thursday announced a new publication series focusing on research results, country projects and technical updates. The first nine briefs include summaries of HIV counseling services and the role of faith-based groups in HIV/AIDS and reproductive health issues in Tanzania (FHI release, 8/11).
- "HIV Prevalence, Unrecognized Infection and HIV Testing Among Men Who Have Sex With Men," Journal of the American Medical Association: The CDC study of MSM in five cities from June 2004 to April 2005, which was published in the Aug. 10 issue of JAMA, found that 25% of MSM surveyed were HIV-positive and 48% of these men were previously unaware of their status. The study's authors conclude that increased HIV testing is needed among MSM to decrease HIV transmission and that prevention programs should work to reach people unaware of their status, particularly in high-risk populations (JAMA, 8/10).
