Uganda's Ministry of Health plans to distribute more than 1.8 million insecticide-treated nets as part of a new campaign to control malaria, Xinhua/People's Daily reports. The nationwide campaign aims to reduce prevalence of the disease, particularly in rural areas, Emmanual Otaala, the state minister for primary health care, said (Xinhua/People's Daily, 11/14). According to Otaala, roughly 80% of sub-counties will be targeted next month. He added that the health ministry has contracted with the U.S.-based companies ACCORD and Population Services International to distribute the ITNs (Edyegu, New Vision, 11/13).
