Obama Returns To The Campaign Trail To Press Health Care Reform
President Obama urged supporters to pressure their congressional representatives to move quickly on health reform and to back the White House agenda in a conference call Thursday, the Associated Press reports. "If we don't get it done this year, we're not going to get it done," Obama said during the call with campaign volunteers, arranged by the president's political organization, Organizing for America. Obama took the call from Air Force One, while returning from a Democratic fundraising trip to the West Coast (Elliot, 5/28).
The campaign group is also asking volunteers to do be active, Politico reports. Mitch Stewart, the group's top organizer, urged supporters during the 15-minute phone call "To sign a declaration of support for the president's health care principles, to organize or attend a house party kickoff for the health care campaign and to help develop and attend public service events related to health care" (Martin, 5/29).
