Georgia Awards Grants to Expand Services at Rural Health Networks
The Georgia Department of Community Health's Office of Rural Health Services has awarded about $3 million in grants to 11 rural health care networks statewide to improve emergency medical care and other services, the Augusta Chronicle reports. The grants will go to networks serving 54 Georgia counties, most of which are federally designated "health professional shortage areas." The Department of Community Health awarded the grants based on the networks' ability to serve multiple counties, to meet existing health needs and to expand on existing services (Williams, Augusta Chronicle, 4/11).
