Bush Expected to Address HIV/AIDS Issues in Second European Visit

President Bush is scheduled this week to make his second trip to Europe, where he "hopes to rally the world's richest nations to fight AIDS," among other issues, the AP/Baltimore Sun reports. With an anticipated arrival in London on Wednesday night, Bush on Thursday will meet with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at Buckingham Palace and then with Prime Minister Tony Blair later that evening. Bush is also scheduled to participate in the G8 summit in Genoa, Italy, visit the Pope and make his final stop in Pristina, Kosovo. While the issue of missile defense is likely to be the focus of many of his meetings, the AP/Sun reports that "[b]ecause many oppose his missile shield plan, Bush hopes to shift focus" to a number of issues, including the U.N. Global AIDS and Health Fund. Administration officials told the AP/Sun that the fund could top $1 billion after combining donations from countries and groups participating in the G8 summit (AP/Baltimore Sun, 7/15).
