Hong Kong AIDS Group Targets Truck Drivers with ‘Explicit’ Educational Video

Hong Kong's AIDS Concern has launched "the most candid publicity campaign yet in the territory," targeting truckers who commute between Hong Kong and mainland China with sex education information, Reuters reports. The campaign includes a 10-minute, sexually "explicit" video outlining the risks of unprotected sex with prostitutes and giving "animated instructions" about how to properly use a condom. The group hopes the "graphic language and scenes" in the video -- which will be shown weekly in the territory's main cargo terminal waiting room -- will "make sure people watch" and "not feel they are being lectured," AIDS Concern Chief Executive Graham Smith said. The AIDS awareness group aimed its campaign at truckers in response to the growing concern that men who have sex with Chinese prostitutes will bring HIV back to the territory and "drive up the number of HIV and AIDS infections." Hong Kong still has a "relatively low" number of AIDS cases compared to the rest of Asia, but a recent study showed that 50% of truck drivers have had sex with Chinese prostitutes (Chow, Reuters, 12/6).
