AIDS Researcher Peter Salovey Named Dean of Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Yale University
AIDS researcher and psychologist Peter Salovey yesterday was appointed dean of Yale University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Associated Press reports. Salovey, who has been chair of the school's psychology department for more than two years, also serves as the deputy director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS at the university and holds secondary appointments in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health and the Institution for Social and Policy Studies (Associated Press, 1/7). Salovey's work on HIV/AIDS includes a study sponsored by NIH examining the "framing and tailoring of health messages to motivate behaviors that can prevent cancer and HIV/AIDS," according to a Yale press release. Salovey will step down from his post as chair of the psychology department in order to assume his duties (Yale University release, 1/7).
