Indiana Recruits Residents for Prescription Discount Card
The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration is trying to locate the estimated 9,000 residents who are eligible but not enrolled in HoosierRx, the state's prescription drug discount program for low-income seniors, the Evansville Courier & Press reports. Administration members are "on the road right now" to encourage eligible seniors to apply, FSSA Secretary Cheryl Sullivan said. The state aims to enroll about 30,000 residents by June; currently, 21,000 are enrolled. Gov. Joe Kernan (D) approved legislation this summer to increase the prescription discount from 50% to 75% and increase total reimbursement from $1,000 to $1,200. Sullivan said HoosierRx can be used in conjunction with the Medicare drug discount cards, adding that the programs together "double the amount of drug cost savings." When the Medicare prescription drug coverage takes effect in 2006, the HoosierRx card will expire (Johnson, Evansville Courier & Press, 9/2).
