About 75% of college students in China know how HIV is spread, as well as how to prevent transmission of the virus, according to a survey released recently by the Ministry of Health, Xinhuanet reports. The survey was conducted by an unnamed research institute among 1,919 participants in 24 colleges in 19 cities, according to the health ministry's information office. The In addition, 57.8% of participants said they were aware of the risks associated with HIV/AIDS, and 47.7% said they knew a test can detect HIV. According to the survey, public media -- including television programs, reports, films and Web sites -- are the most effective method of promoting HIV/AIDS awareness, while campus outlets have little effect. In addition, although demand for increased HIV/AIDS knowledge is high among students, the group receives inadequate prevention education according to respondents, the survey finds (Xinhuanet, 3/23).
