Pakistan Launches $20M Five-Year TB Control Program
The government of Pakistan recently unveiled a five-year $20 million national tuberculosis control program as part of seven new health care initiatives, the Business Recorder reports. Health Minister Muhammad Nasir Khan said the government is dedicated to controlling TB, which causes more than 50,000 deaths annually in the country. He also called on the private sector to become more engaged in improving the health care and implementing modern technology. In addition, the government plans to announce a national health policy soon, according to Khan (Bilal, Business Recorder, 4/23).
