NGO Helen Keller International Battles Lymphatic Filariasis In Sierra Leone
In this post in the Global Health Frontline News (GHFN) "Notes from the Field" blog, GHFN Managing Editor David Lindsay, who recently traveled to Sierra Leone to cover a drug distribution campaign for lymphatic filariasis (LF) and river blindness, reports on how the non-governmental organization Helen Keller International is working to educate people in the country about LF and is organizing a massive campaign to distribute drugs for treatment. "With the help of the government of Sierra Leone, USAID, and the pharmaceutical companies Merck and GlaxoSmithKline, which provided the drugs free, the campaign was able to treat more than one million people in Freetown and the surrounding area in five days," Lindsay writes (10/19).
