Teen Pregnancy, HIV, Tuberculosis Rates Down in Virginia
Virginia's rates of teen pregnancy, tuberculosis and new HIV infections have decreased, according to state statistics, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports. The improvement contrasts with the state's rates of stroke and cancer deaths, which are higher than the national average but are declining in the state. State Health Commissioner Dr. E. Anne Peterson said during a health conference on Tuesday, "We still do have more work to accomplish. Most of the really pressing health concerns have their roots in people's behaviors" (Smith, Richmond Times-Dispatch, 4/4).
