Michigan Counties Offer Drug Discount Card to Uninsured
Several Michigan counties have started offering uninsured residents prescription drug discounts of about 25%, the Chicago Tribune reports. Under the Northern Prescription Discount Plan, residents will be issued cards good for discounts at about 40,000 drugstores nationwide. To be eligible, individuals must lack prescription drug insurance and live a county where the program is available, the Tribune reports. Currently, Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet and Otsego counties are offering the card, while Benzie and Leelanau counties are considering the program (Chicago Tribune, 8/6). President Bush has proposed instituting a similar program nationwide to cover Medicare beneficiaries (Kaiser Daily Health Policy Report, 7/13).
