Kansas City City Council Should Consider Task Force Proposals on AIDS Spending, Editorial Says

The task force appointed by Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes to study the city's AIDS spending has formulated a list of "carefully considered recommendations" on how to allocate AIDS funds, suggestions that the City Council and area agencies should take into consideration, a Kansas City Star editorial states. The task force recommends that Kansas City allocate greater funding for groups that fight AIDS among minorities and suggests that Barnes hire a full-time staff member to oversee the city's coordination of AIDS services. The editorial states, "The task force worked with the kind of care that has long characterized Kansas City's response to [AIDS]. ... The City Council and area agencies involved in the struggle with AIDS should carefully review the task force's recommendations. Many of these proposals deserve to be implemented as quickly as possible" (Kansas City Star, 10/15).
