Public Health Service Releases Updated Guidelines for HIV Treatment of Pregnant Women, Prevention of Opportunistic Infections
The U.S. Public Health Service has released updated guidelines for the use of antiretroviral drugs in pregnant women to reduce mother-to-child HIV transmission and the prevention of opportunistic infections in HIV-positive patients. The "Public Health Service Task Force Recommendations for Use of Antiretroviral Drugs in Pregnant HIV-1-Infected Women for Maternal Health and Interventions to Reduce Perinatal HIV-1 Transmission in the United States," released Dec. 5, and the "2001 USPHS/IDSA Guidelines for the Prevention of Opportunistic Infections in Persons Infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus," released Nov. 28, are available online at www.hivatis.org (ATIS release, 12/5).
