Soap Operas Include Characters, Storylines with HIV/AIDS for Daytime Unites For Africa Campaign
All nine daytime soap operas will spend a week addressing the approximately 12 million children who have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa, TV Guide reports. "Days of Our Lives" writer Sofia Landon Geier created the Daytime Unites for Africa campaign after the death last year of her 11-year-old daughter Hallie, who had been saving her lunch money to donate to children in Africa. "I'm trying to honor what Hallie believed in," Landon Geier said. Starting on Thursday, the "dire health issue" will be incorporated into the storylines on the soap operas, TV Guide reports (Logan, TV Guide, 10/2).
