WHYY’s ‘Fresh Air’ Interviews Researcher About Link Between Global Warming, Malaria
WHYY's "Fresh Air," an NPR-syndicated program, on Monday included an interview with Paul Epstein, associate director of the Center for Health and the Global Environment at Harvard Medical School, about the link between increased illness -- including infectious diseases such as malaria -- and global warming. According to Epstein, receding glaciers and permafrost, the northward migration of plants and extreme weather events -- such as storms, floods and hurricanes -- are allowing mosquitoes to circulate at high altitudes, resulting in the spread of malaria in areas that previously were unaffected (Gross, "Fresh Air," WHYY, 6/26). The complete segment is available online in RealPlayer.
