Gates Foundation Pledges $900,000 To Establish HIV/AIDS Health Worker Training Facility in Africa’s Great Lakes Region
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has pledged $900,000 to establish a training center for HIV/AIDS health care workers in Africa's Great Lakes region, Reuters reports. The center will be open to health care workers in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. According to Agnes Binagwaho, executive secretary of Rwanda's National AIDS Commission, the center will be located in Kigali, Rwanda, and will be run by international experts under the coordination of the country's AIDS Treatment and Research Center (Reuters, 7/20).
