FDA Approves Drugs Faster Than European Medicines Agency, Report Finds
"EMEA Meets Performance Goals, But Lags U.S. FDA in Drug Approvals," Tufts CSDD Impact Report: The report examines new medicinal product approval times by FDA and the European Medicines Agency from 2000 through 2005. According to the report, the agencies had similar mean approval times, but FDA approved 47 products faster than the European Union agency. Fifty-two of the 71 products approved by both agencies were approved by FDA an average of 11.8 months before they received EMEA approval (Tufts CSDD Impact Report, January/February 2007).
