Governor Appoints ‘Longtime Aide’ to Lead Oregon Health Plan Expansion
Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber (D) has selected Jean Thorne, a "longtime aide," to lead a proposed expansion of the Oregon Health Plan, the New York Times reports. The Oregon Legislature recently instructed the state to seek federal waivers to expand the plan, which offers health coverage to Medicaid beneficiaries and other low-income individuals. Thorne currently serves as the governor's adviser on education and "work-force issues" (Preusch, New York Times, 9/19).
