Group Publishes Lead Screening Guidelines for State, Local Medicaid Agencies
The Alliance to End Childhood Lead Poisoning in October released a guide to help state and local Medicaid agencies track and monitor lead screening for children and assist health care providers who screen children for lead exposure. According to the guide, Medicaid agencies should:
- Use blood-lead monitoring systems to collect and examine screening data "in accurate and timely ways."
- Encourage health care providers to screen for lead exposure by "surveying performance and identifying areas for improvement."
- Offer a "type of provider incentive" for those who screen for lead exposure based on "previous tracking and monitoring.
