Boston Globe Examines ‘Alarming’ Increase in HIV/AIDS Among Young MSM

The Boston Globe on Tuesday examined the "alarming" increase in new HIV/AIDS cases among young men who have sex with men, some of whom have adopted a "complacent, even cavalier attitude toward a still-deadly disease." According to the Globe, even with "years of warnings" about unprotected sex, MSM between the ages of 18 and 24 do "not seem to be getting the message." Larry Kessler, founding director of AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, said, "The reasons are very complicated. It's a new generation, and they didn't witness the devastation of the '80s and the first half of the '90s," adding, "The second thing is, there are drugs now, and I think that has added to an illusion that this is not a serious disease" (English, Boston Globe, 11/4).
