Los Angeles Times Profiles Toy Company Executive Who Formed Organization That Helps Children Affected by AIDS
The Los Angeles Times on Monday profiled the group Children Affected by AIDS Foundation, which Joe Cristina, an executive at the toy company Mattel, founded in 1993. CAAF has raised more than $18 million for "small, grassroots community groups dedicated to the day-to-day needs of children who have HIV and AIDS or whose family members did," according to the Times. The organization -- which has received sponsorships from Mattel, Nickelodeon, Toys "R" Us and Target -- has a panel of 30 experts who decide on the distribution of $2,000 to $25,000 grants to organizations (Lelyveld, Los Angeles Times, 1/3).
