Editorials
-
Accra Daily Mail: Although malaria "ranks among the top killers on the African continent," the disease can be prevented with "certain simple measures" -- including mosquito repellents, insecticide spraying and environmental sanitation efforts, according to a Daily Mail editorial. In addition, the Ghanaian Ministry of Health should implement laws requiring owners of public facilities to take steps to reduce the prevalence of mosquitoes on their properties, the editorial says, concluding that although "malaria is a killer, little precautions from people can help reduce the spread of the parasite from person to person" (Accra Daily Mail, 4/26).
- The Post: Malaria prevention measures should be adapted for local environmental, epidemiological, economic and social circumstances because "no single intervention can be said to be appropriate in all contexts," according to The Post. In addition, malaria treatment policies should "be designed to minimize the threat of" drug resistance, the editorial says, concluding, "Clearly, no magic bullet can be applied universally. But we need to keep fighting" (The Post, 4/26).
