"Uninsured and Dying Because of It: Updating the Institute of Medicine Analysis on the Impact of Uninsurance on Mortality," Urban Institute: The analysis updates a 2002 Institute of Medicine report that found 18,000 deaths in 2000 resulted from uninsured adults delaying or going without necessary medical care. The Urban Institute analysis estimates that 22,000 deaths nationwide in 2007 resulted from adults not having health insurance. The analysis concludes that 137,000 people died between 2000 and 2006 because they did not have coverage (Urban Institute release, 1/8).
