Florida AHCA Releases 2001 Nursing Home Report
The Florida state Agency for Health Care Administration on Jan. 22 released its 2001 Florida Nursing Home Resident Data Report. The report, which presents data collected between 1988 and 1999 from "freestanding skilled nursing facilities," found that annual nursing home admissions increased by an average of 10.3% per year. In addition, the report revealed that while residents in their early eighties continue to be the most common age group admitted to nursing homes, "mature adults," or residents between the ages of 40 and 64, compose the fastest growing admissions group. A "large proportion" of nursing home admissions came from hospital admissions, and the most common health problems reported at admission were "unspecified diagnoses and musculoskeletal diseases/disorders," according to the report's findings (AHCA Release, 1/22).
