Little Rock TV Station Drops Documents Lawsuit Against Arkansas AIDS Foundation
Little Rock television station KARK on Friday withdrew its lawsuit against the Arkansas AIDS Foundation, having obtained the documents it sought in the suit without court action, the Associated Press reports. The lawsuit, filed in Pulaski County Circuit Court, alleged that the agency "refused to hand over complaints" received from clients of the Arkansas Supportive Housing Network, which provides housing assistance to homeless and at-risk people with disabilities. KARK said that the documents should be made available under federal and state Freedom of Information Act laws as the agency is publicly funded. The foundation, which serves about 300 HIV-positive clients in three counties, had said that the documents held little of the information sought by KARK and that its records were protected by state and federal privacy laws, but ultimately released the documents. The station dropped its federal court lawsuit last month (Associated Press, 7/14).
