United Nations Postal Administration Issues AIDS Awareness Stamps
The United Nations Postal Administration on Oct. 24 issued three commemorative stamps and three semi-postal souvenir sheets with the theme of "AIDS Awareness." The stamps each feature a picture of the United Nations building decorated with a red AIDS ribbon (Kronish, Associated Press, 11/4). The stamps include the phrase "UNAIDS Awareness" down the side and are available for use in the United States, Austria and Switzerland (UNPA Web site, 11/5). The semi-postal stamps, issued for the first time by UNPA, cost more than a regular stamp -- 43 cents for a 37-cent stamp in the United States -- and the funds raised from the extra cost will go to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Associated Press, 11/4). The stamps can be viewed online.
