The Washington Post: Biden To Reopen ACA Insurance Marketplaces As Pandemic Has Cost Millions Of Americans Their Coverage
President Biden is scheduled to take executive actions as early as Thursday to reopen federal marketplaces selling Affordable Care Act health plans and to lower recent barriers to joining Medicaid. The orders will be Biden’s first steps since taking office to help Americans gain health insurance, a prominent campaign goal that has assumed escalating significance as the pandemic has dramatized the need for affordable health care — and deprived millions of Americans coverage as they have lost jobs in the economic fallout. Bloomberg Law: Medicaid Expansion Ballot Measures Brewing In Three More States
Health policy advocates in Florida, Mississippi, and South Dakota are pushing for Medicare expansion at the ballot box to get around Republican opposition in the statehouse. The three are the last remaining states where passing Medicaid expansion by ballot initiative is a possibility under the state constitution. Six red states have expanded Medicaid eligibility by ballot initiative so far: Maine in 2017, Idaho, Nebraska and Utah in 2018, and Oklahoma and Missouri in 2020. (Brown, 1/26)
