Medical Facility in Rural Rwanda Provides ‘Hope’ in AIDS Fight
The San Francisco Chronicle on Thursday profiled Rwanda's Kabgayi Hospital, one of several "struggling medical facilities" that HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson and his delegation have visited during their four-country trip to Africa. However, none of the facilities are "as full of hope as this one," according to the Chronicle (Russell, San Francisco Chronicle, 12/4). Thompson and a U.S. delegation of lawmakers, business people and religious groups are visiting Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia and Kenya to examine projects aimed at fighting HIV/AIDS (Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report, 12/3). According to the Chronicle, "If Africa is ever to turn the tide against the onslaught of AIDS, it will happen in places like" Kabgayi Hospital (San Francisco Chronicle, 12/4).
