Anonymous POZ Columnist Named Editor of Magazine
The monthly HIV/AIDS magazine POZ in its April issue will announce it has named Regan Hofmann as its new editor in chief, the New York Times reports. Hofmann, who will be the first heterosexual woman to edit the magazine, for the past four years has been writing the magazine's Anonymous column and has been editor in chief of New Jersey Life magazine. She said she wants to have the content of the magazine change to mirror the evolving epidemic. Hofmann added that being POZ's editor will be an "amazing opportunity to dramatically show the world how different the profile of AIDS is in the world today." The April issue will include an interview with Hofmann in which she discusses how she secretly lived with HIV for the past decade. "The stigma really is the issue," she said, adding, "Twenty-five years after they first identified HIV, the veil of secrecy and shame that surrounds this disease is significant" (Miller, New York Times, 3/13).
