Six Companies Win USAID Contract To Support PEPFAR
USAID recently awarded six companies a $200 million, five-year multi-award contract that aims to support the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, the Washington Post reports. According to the Post, the six companies -- Abt Associates, BearingPoint, Booz Allen Hamilton, Management Sciences for Health, Social Sectors Development Strategies and the Training Resources Group -- that have been awarded the AIDS Support and Technical Assistance Resources contract will compete over five years for up to $200 million in work orders to support PEPFAR's prevention and treatment activities (Hubler, Washington Post, 8/20).According to a BearingPoint release, AIDSTAR contracts are intended to provide technical assistance and support to expand quality HIV/AIDS care, treatment and prevention services, as well as to establish technical and management expertise to sustain those services (BearingPoint release, 8/13). AIDSTAR includes two components:
- The first supports service delivery programs focused on providing medical treatment and counseling for people living with HIV/AIDS; and
- The second calls for working with health ministries, national AIDS commissions, and district and local nongovernmental organizations to improve and develop prevention services, the Post reports.
Lizann Prosser, BearingPoint's project director for the contract, said that the six grant recipients likely will not work together because AIDSTAR funds specific tasks that only one recipient will execute (Washington Post, 8/20).
